Obsession: Apple TV

My personal favorite form of media happens to be video. Movies and television shows are kind of my ’thing’. So naturally when the new Apple TV was released, I was quite intrigued. After a few weeks with my Apple TV (3rd Generation) I can officially say that I am quite impressed and taken with it.

To begin, the price is quite reasonable. Only $100 is pretty affordable, especially for how feature rich it is. This version has no hard-drive built in, so you will need space on your computer for all of your media. This was not a problem because I already had quite a few television shows and movies on my computer, meaning it was not too hard of a switch to digital media for me.

The device itself is quite small and compact, making it easy to set up near your television. Only two plugins required, power source and HMDI. It connects via your Wifi network and accesses your iTunes library through Home Sharing. I was already using Home Sharing for my iPhone and iPad, so again, easy transition.

I believe this is the beginning of the end for physical media. It may take awhile, but the benefits of high-definition digital media streamed through a single device is just too great when compared to a physical collection. Not to mention the user interface and other apps that come preloaded on the Apple TV is amazing. Netflix being the most obvious, but also Trailers, YouTube, Internet Radio, and Podcasts (to name a few) makes this device highly valuable.

If you were still unconvinced of the new Apple TV and have a need for such a device, stop thinking about it, and go pick one up immediately. Also don’t forget to hear the full analysis and insight from the whole Next Level Nerd gang on Episode One, available for free download this Saturday.
